Shaolin Kung fu trains a person's body and soul. It trains the body to be able to link the the nervous system with the muscles and to be healthy. We will be able to protect ourselves againts physical attacks and our reflexes will also improve and develop. By training the soul our heart will be calm and we will be able to discover many wise thoughts and get to know life, different objects and the universe better.
If one has achieved both, then he is at the highest level. This is what we call the union of chan and wu.
